How We Planned In The Past

Prince Albert Prince Albert has many desirable features—its river and natural areas, its location as a gateway to the north, its resource and agricultural industry. All these features have influenced its growth and development. Surveyed by1878, the river lot system came to form the basis of much of the older subdivisions in the city today. The “Boom Era” of 1910-1913 resulted in many new subdivisions. E.A. James and T.Aird Murray in 1912 recommended a business centre connected to suburban peripheries by a system of highways. A.E.K. Bunnell’s zoning scheme for Prince Albert in the 1930s set out important new standards for new development. The first modern land use plan was the 1967 Prince Albert Development Plan, which established important principles for the way the city was planned. Prince Albert today reflects the combination of all these planning studies and decisions.
