Urban Design and Architectural Controls

The provincial Planning and Development Act permits municipalities in Saskatchewan to designate areas as architectural control districts. Within these areas, the city may set standards to preserve architectural character or promote an established theme. Before an architectural control district can be established however, the City's Development Plan must set urban design policy guidelines.

Right now, Prince Albert does not impose architectural design standards on new buildings or developments except for Appendix "A" of the Zoning Bylaw, where design standards are set out for Medium Density Housing.  There are however, general landscaping regulations within the Zoning Bylaw for residential, commercial and industrial zones.

Question: Are there parts of the city that would benefit from having architectural design standards to preserve or enhance the character of the area?
